The Gallery History:
 
The Gallery on Washington was purchased in January of 2008. It was then called Canterbury/ Lancelot Apartments and was in dire need of repair and renovation. This process of renovating the 4140 building alone, took a crew of over 50, everyday for the past 9 months. The building was completely gutted. Meaning all plumbing, electric, and fixtures had to be torn out and replaced with new.

The visionary for this project, Brian Hayden, has been recognized for several other renovation projects in the St. Louis and Alton areas. He changed floor plans, added the art deco theme, and went above and beyond to bring these buildings up to the potential and condition they deserve to be in. The building is adorned with various works of art created by artist Martha Hayden. Visit www.marthahayden.com to see more.

The buildings were built in 1929 and were originally used for a convent and a hotel. They became apartments many years later. Several owners had came and gone after the building were converted. For some time, these buildings were not reaching the income goals or helping the historic area. The Gallery is a new beginning for this property and will fit perfectly with the "trendy" and upscale theme that has been set for the Central West End/SLU area. "I am very proud of this property and excited to see the positive reinforcement come from the community"- says Brian of the comments received from neighbors and community leaders.
